The Restigouche River watershed covers more than one million hectares in northern New Brunswick and the southern part of the Gaspé Peninsula in Quebec. It contains a wild river and mature forests which are home to magnificent wildlife such as the lynx, eagles and wild Atlantic salmon.
Hydro-Quebec considers the Magpie River a potential site for a hydropower plant in the future. Quebec’s Office for Public Hearings on the Environment recommends complete protection of the region and the addition of the Magpie River to the biodiversity reserve.
