Event November 16 : The Boreal Forest: Our Land, Our Stories, Our Responsibility

The Aboriginal Sustainability Project and the Canadian Boreal Initiative will be hosting an evening of stories and music celebrating the lives and leadership of Aboriginal communities in Canada’s Boreal Forest.  This complimentary event will take place at 7:00 p.m. on November 16 in Room S1/3, Stewart Biology Building on McGill’s campus.

Come and be inspired by Aboriginal community leaders sharing personal stories of their relationship with their land and their vision for their people.  We are pleased to have three wonderful speakers at this event:
•    Grand Chief Matthew Coon Come, Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee), former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations
•    Chief Paul Gull, Cree Nation of Waswanipi
•    Stephen Kakfwi, former Premier of the Northwest Territories and former President of the Dene Nation

Also, enjoy a musical performance by local Innu artist Kathia Rock.  Originally from the Innu community of Mani-Utenam (Malioténam) on Québec’s North Shore, Kathia is an accomplished and powerful musician. Don’t miss this chance to see this upcoming singer-songwriter in an intimate setting!

This event is a part of a national Aboriginal Speaking Series to celebrate the leadership and commitment of Aboriginal peoples in the conservation and sustainable development of Canada’s Boreal Forest.  The tour is titled "The Boreal Forest: Our Land, Our Stories, Our Responsibility."  The event is free and open to the public.  As a special bonus for the Montreal event, a free Walrus magazine will be handed out to everyone at the door!
