The snow beluga challenge...

I simply couldn't ignore this challenge. Belugas are the most iconic marine mammals in the mighty Saint Lawrence. We feel a strong connection to them, first in our imaginations, and then, even more powerfully, when we actually encounter them. I was lucky enough to be able to observe several of them in the Saguenay from a distance, standing on the shore. The first thing that strikes you is the beauty and majesty of their habitat. Then comes the silence. Their white bodies cutting through the dark waters of the Saguenay. Finally, you make out the sound of their breathing through the salt spray. A unique and unforgettable experience.

They can't escape what we inflict on them and don't have the means to defend their environment. We, on the other hand, can act on their behalf, and it's time we stepped in before it's too late. Contributing a snow beluga to http://www.mybeluga.ca may be only a symbolic gesture, but we stand firm in our commitment and won't abandon them.
